If you grew up in the Midwest, you probably know Snickers Apple Salad. And yes, we call it a salad.

Growing up, this was hands-down one of my favorite “salads” at the holidays. My mom’s version was something like Cool Whip, vanilla pudding mix, chopped apples, and Snickers bars.

Sometimes I was in charge of making it—and I’m pretty sure I ate almost as many Snickers while making the salad as I actually put into it!

So I decided to bring back one of my childhood favorites with this High-Protein Snickers Caramel Apple Yogurt Cup.

It has all those flavors I love—crisp apples, creamy yogurt, chocolate, peanuts, and caramel—but with a little more protein and staying power.

And yes, there is still a real Snickers bar in it. Because that's part of the fun!

Why I Love the Ingredients

One of my favorite things about this snack is that we're not taking away the fun ingredients—we're simply adding foods that make it more satisfying.

Greek yogurt: This is our protein base. Greek yogurt gives this snack a creamy texture while adding a good amount of protein, which can help make it more filling.

Apple: Apples add natural sweetness, crunch, and fiber. I love the contrast of a crisp apple with the creamy yogurt and chewy caramel.

Medjool date: This is my new favorite way to make an easy, naturally sweet caramel. Dates provide fiber and are a source of plant compounds, including polyphenols. When softened and blended, they create the perfect caramel-like texture.

Snickers: Yep, we're keeping the Snickers! It gives this recipe that chocolate, caramel, peanut flavor that makes the original Snickers Apple Salad so good. One snack-size bar is plenty to get pieces of Snickers throughout the whole cup.

Make a Batch of Date Caramel

If you love the date caramel, make a bigger batch and keep it in the refrigerator. It's delicious with apples, yogurt, oatmeal, or even spread on toast.

Easy Date Caramel

  • 1 cup pitted Medjool dates
  • ½–¾ cup water or milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt

To make: Soak the dates in hot water for 5–10 minutes, then drain. Blend with ½ cup water or milk, vanilla, and sea salt until smooth. Add additional liquid a little at a time until you reach your desired caramel consistency.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

A Snack That Satisfies

This High-Protein Snickers Caramel Apple Yogurt Cup comes in at 237 calories with 15 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber.

Greek yogurt provides the protein, while the apple and date help contribute to the 4 grams of fiber.

Apples contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, and dates provide fiber along with naturally occurring plant compounds called polyphenols.

I love that you still get those sweet caramel-apple and Snickers flavors, but with protein and fiber to make this snack a little more satisfying and filling.

A Fun Twist on an Old Favorite

I love finding ways to take foods I grew up eating and give them a little nutrition boost without turning them into something completely different.

This isn't about making Snickers Apple Salad “good” or “bad.” It's simply another way to enjoy those same flavors while adding more protein, fiber, and foods that help keep you satisfied.

And honestly, the combination of creamy Greek yogurt, crunchy apples, date caramel, and little bites of Snickers is pure joy.

If you're craving something sweet in the afternoon or want a dessert that has a little more staying power, give this High-Protein Snickers Caramel Apple Yogurt Cup a try!
