Sometimes is it nice to have a protein bar at hand when you are in a hurry. Just like yesterday, I had FIVE kids for the morning (it was a piece of cake ) and by the time I got them all packed in the van right on time, I realized that will be hungry soon. I threw in a protein bar and mug of coffee in the van and off we went! In times of desperation, a protein bar can really come in handy! It may help prevent you from going through the drive-thru and ordering something you probably should not.
As I look at the protein/energy bar section in the grocery store, I think wow, there are so many . . . but they all seem the same, ugh! I found a couple of my favs that I wanted to share with you today!
What am I looking for when I chose a protein bar?
1) Less than 250 calories
2) No artificial sweeteners, aka, splenda (sucralose), etc. Natural sweeteners are fine. I have a problem with digesting artificial sweeteners, so this is my personal preference.
3) At least 10 grams of protein – keeps you full longer!
4) 10 grams of sugar or less
I found my favorite!
PowerCrunch Peanut Butter Fudge
First off, this bar is DEEE-LIICIOUS! Nutrition facts: 200 calories; 12 g fat; 5 g saturated; 100 mg sodium; 10 g carbohydrates; 1 g fiber; 5 g sugars; 13 g protein.
Remember this is peanut butter fudge flavor, results in the amount of fat grams. The bar is sweetened with sugar and stevia leaf extract. I was actually surprised it only contained only 5 grams of sugar! I also love that it contains 13 grams of protein!
My second favorite is . . . .
Clif Mojo Peanut Butter Pretzel
Nutritional facts: 200 calories; 9 g fat; 2 g saturated fat; 230 mg sodium; 21 g carbohydrate; 2 g fiber; 9 g sugar; 10 g protein. This bar is a little higher in sugar and lower in protein but this bar is soooooo gooooood! I don’t want to have to choke down a bar with perfect nutrition but tastes horrible!
My third choice is . . .
Promax Lower Sugar Energy Bar
Nutrition facts: 230 calories; 6 g fat; 5 g saturated; 240 mg sodium; 34 g carbohydrates; 11 g fiber; 9 g sugar; 18 g protein. A very filling bar with 18 grams of protein and 11 grams of fiber, wow! The nutrition breakdown looks good but I didn’t think it tasted as good as the others. It was a bit too chewy for me and at times I felt like I was going to bite down on a piece of paper or something – the chocolate was just too hard. This bar is also sweetened with stevia. Overall it was still good and it sure did fill me up!
Maybe I will find some new bars on my next shopping trip! So much fun!
