There is nothing more fun for a kid to do with food than to get messy in the kitchen! I know when my daughter helps me make something, she is extremely proud of the food and she eats it! So, we decided to have some fun with the cousins and make some granola bars while we stayed at Grandpa and Grandma’s house. I tested this recipe on my other three nephews and they really enjoyed the bars so lets’s test this recipe out on more kids!

Simple ingredients that you may already have in your pantry and if you don’t, no worries, you may substitute a different nut or raisins for plum amazins.
Now the kids did express they did not like raisins and once one kid say it, everyone else joined in. I really tried to enforce that we don’t say “gross” or “yuck” to something that someone may like. Don’t dis someone’s deliciousness, if that makes sense. Even though the kids were spectacle of the Plum Amazins they actually liked them in the granola bars!
Here are some good tidbits about the Plum Amazins! They are just dried plums chopped in bite-sized pieces. Sunsweet’s website compares them to raisins and cranberries.

Most kids do not get the adequate amount of fiber in their diet, so by adding rolled oats (more fiber than instant) and flaxseed can do wonders to a child’s diet. For more info on meal plans for kids check out MyPlate for preschoolers and children.
Let’s get started, but first we washed our hands!
A major must, especially with kids!
STEP 1: Measure ingredients: honey, oil and peanut butter. Stir ingredients together.
STEP 2: Add the rest of the ingredients (oats, flaxseed, almonds and plum amazins) and stir.
Use yer’ muscles, girls!
STEP 3: Spray pan and spread mixture. Refrigerate until firm. We sprayed the back of a spatula to easily spread mixture
We actually kept these in the freezer but they didn’t last long so either the frig or freezer will work.

Go Energy! Granola Bars
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1/4 cup ground flax
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 1/4 cup Sunsweet® AMAZING PLUM AMAZINS™
In a medium bowl mix together honey, and peanut butter. Add oats, ground flax, almonds and plum amazins. Spy cooking spry into an 8-by-8-inch baking pan (or a Ziploc® large rectangle container). Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours.
