Apple Pie Steel Cut Oats–A breakfast in the right direction!

So one of my genius dietitian friends, Dawn the Dietitian, gave me a recipe for steel cut oats in the crock-pot with a can of pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice!  It was absolutely wonderful!


So this weekend I decided to make another version with apples!  Great and simple recipe!


1 cup steel cut oats

1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce

1/2 – 1 tsp apple pie seasoning

pinch of salt

4 cups water

Place in the crock-pot on HIGH for 4 hours and you magically will have a breakfast of champions!


Steel cut oats are a fabulous grain in its purest form.  Steel cut oats contain more fiber – plus more of that cholesterol-soaking soluble fiber too!  Here is the breakdown for oats from most to least amount of fiber.
