Favorite Friday Product–Brocolette

Favorite Friday Product–Brocolette

The cross between broccoli and Chinese kale has subtle sweetness and flavor similar to asparagus.     You can see the difference between broccoli and broccolette above.  I just ate it fresh and really enjoyed the flavor!  Something different to try – enjoy!   Nutrition…

Mushroom–The unveiled super food!

Mushroom–The unveiled super food!

I bought some mushrooms yesterday because they were on a great buy and thought they would be perfect in a fresh salad.  The salad with the mushrooms was fantastic but my husband asked me a great question, “Why are mushrooms good for you?”  Mushrooms are…

How Can I Avoid the Temptation of Halloween Candy?

How Can I Avoid the Temptation of Halloween Candy?

Even though I have been under the weather this weekend, by the time Trick-or-Treating came my appetite was getting back to normal. I saw myself get excited as my daughter dropped some of my favorite candies into your bucket.  Mmmm . . .  Snickers, etc  – I can’t wait to have one of them!

So how do you not over indulge in the yummy Halloween candy each – same goes for your children.  If you give your children limits on the candy, do the same for yourself.  If you tell your children 3 treats a week or a treat a day, then you can follow as well.  I hate to deny myself or my child from sweet treats but teach moderation. Maybe it is one treat after dinner.

We know if we deny ourselves what we really want (the candy), the entire bucket of Halloween candy may be gone that night

I like to put my chocolate candy bars in the freezer – that way I don’t devour them in seconds, I can savor the flavor and make it last a long time!

Have you heard of the French’s Women’s Diet?  They abide by a three bite rule – three bites of something sweet and that is it!  They take just three bites of cake for dessert and then pass on the rest. Wow, that takes self control, try it with something you enjoy.  Now, I know what you are saying, I can make a candy bar disappear in three bites – that is not the point.  The point is to really savor, cherish those three bites and make it last.  Really enjoy your treat and get all your taste buds involved.   To wind down my day, I may indulge in some chocolate, quiet time and cup of decaf coffee – pure heaven!   I will make it an event!
