Restaurant Fake Out – Subway Breakfast Sandwiches
Subway’s black forest ham, egg and cheese sandwich is sure a wonderful way to start your morning. I enjoyed this sandwich so much I decided to make my own!
I made a couple of twists on this sandwich
1) I spiced it up a bit – using pepper jack cheese (which you have the choice at Subway too)
2) I added more protein – 1 egg plus 1 egg white
3) Thin bun instead of English muffin
I did not have English muffins so I used a thin bun and toasted it (twice, to make it crispier)
In a microwave safe bowl, I added one egg and one egg white and blended. I put it in the microwave for about a 1 minute and 20 seconds. Next I added a 1/2 ounce of pepper jack cheese and put it back in the microwave for about 12 seconds until the cheese melted. Next I added red onions, pepper and slice of black forest ham and placed it in my toasted bun. Yummy!
The final tally –
285 calories; 24 grams protein; 5 grams fiber – Yes it is more than Subway’s version but I added way more egg to increase the protein. Plus remember you need to eat more at breakfast and slowly decrease the amount of calories as the day goes on.
If you just want to do an egg white the tally would be 215 calories; 17 grams protein ; 5 grams fiber
SUBWAY’S VERSION: 180 calories; 15 grams protein; 5 grams fiber
The difference – a low calorie English muffin for only 70 calories and less egg, which you can do at home as well but I felt my version was a bit more filling with more protein!
If I am on the go, I will definitely stop by Subway for breakfast but if I want to enjoy a morning at home, I will definitely make my own, ahh.
I better go make myself this sandwich, I am getting hungry!
