You may be running to your dairy section and loading up on yogurt after hearing about the latest research regarding yogurt and weight loss.

Eating three servings (18 ounces) of yogurt each day in addition to a reduced calorie diet, has been shown to help drop those unwanted pounds according to a study done by Dr. Zemel from the University of Tennessee.

Participants lost 22 percent more weight and 81 percent more belly fat than dieters who skipped the snack.  They also maintained more lean muscle mass, which helps burn more calories.

A couple of years ago I was at a conference and was able to hear Dr. Zemel speak about the intriguing research on the link between calcium intake and fat burning – especially around the waist.

The hormone cortisol is responsible for accumulating fat around your belly.  When you eat yogurt, the calcium has been shown to pump out less cortisol – therefore cutting down on the belly flab.  Yogurt is a wonderful food to include in your diet because it also contains great amount of protein  – amino acids which help burn fat.

This particular study showed the participants that included three servings nearly doubled the amount of fat lost compared to those on a low-fat diary diet.
