Snacks to pack!

Mid-morning or mid-afternoon you might be searching around for something to eat and may be visiting some co-workers’ candy dish  but will that satisfy you till your next meal or will you be coming back for more?

Yesterday, I was totally doing just that and thinking what do I want to eat?  I forgot I had some goodies in my desk – score!  They totally hit the spot.

Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters – hit the salty, crunchy and sweet spot!

Serving size is about 7 clusters with 140 calories; 7g fat; 0.5g saturated; 160mg sodium; 15g carbohydrates; 2g fiber; 7g sugars; 4g protein; 2% calcium; 4% iron

Wow, 2 grams of fiber for this amount, not too bad.  Notice there are 7 grams of fat but only 0.5 grams saturated (0g trans fat) – therefore the rest is healthy fats and given that nuts are one of the highest sources of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats which may help increase your healthy (HDL) cholesterol.

WARNING **  put these in little snack baggies or you might eat the whole bag!  Right when you buy them package them into five little snack bags and throw them in your snack cupboard, desk drawer or purse!

Sunsweet® Smart 60 calorie packs – pitted prunes, dried plums

CherryOuter

Ok, I know for some of you this may be going out on a limb but this is really “nature’s candy.”   They are packed with sweetness to satisfy any sweet tooth and if you want it would be ok to pair them up with some dark chocolate!

I love how these are packaged in little packs for only 60 calories plus you get 2 grams of fiber and a ton of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients (a.k.a – plant nutrients).   Including vitamin K, niacin, folate, magnesium, lutein (good for you eyes), beta carotene and so many more nutrients that are hard to pronounce!

Try these snacks separate or even together!  Great nutrition, great snacks, great tasting – it is your choice?
