Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

There are many, many green foods that are so beneficial for your health such as your dark leafy green that help prevent ARMD, age related macular degeneration – keeping your eyes healthy!  But there is one food that I would like to focus on and that is an avocado!

So if you watched Biggest Loser last night they definitely keyed in on the health benefits of an avocado.

Don’t be scared of the fat content, as you can see it is mainly healthy (monounsaturated) fat! These monounsaturated fat can help lower LDL "lousy" cholesterol, while raising HDL "healthy" cholesterol.  This would be a perfect topping for a salad or add to other vegetables because this healthy fat can help absorb certain nutrients such as lycopene and beta-carotene from your veggies.

Plus it is a rich-source of potassium that helps with lowering blood pressure and preventing heart disease.

Remember a couple of years ago when the latest research was saying to stop take your vitamin E supplement because it was not the right form from your supplement?  Well, the research still backs vitamin E sources coming from food sources as a great antioxidant for your health and your heart!  Avocados are a great source of vitamin E plus many others nutrients.

Add an avocado to your sandwich, salad, side dish, entrée or snack!
